When you’re thinking ‘super-foods’, think color, says Beverly Clevidence, Ph. D., a research leader at the USDA”s Diet and Human Performance laboratory. That means foods that are deep blue, purple, red, green, or orange. They contain health-enhancing nutrients that protect against heart disease and cancer, and also improve our sense of balance, our memory, and other thinking skills.
• Pomegranates—powerful antioxidants to help prevent cancer, heart disease, and stroke
• Cinnamon—potent antioxidant; improves blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels; one-half teaspoon daily can reduce fasting glucose by 18-29 percent; triglycerides by 23-30 percent and LDL cholesterol by 12-26 percent.
• Avocados—Can raise good (HDL) blood cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar and provide glutathione to cleanse the liver.
• Wild Pacific salmon—powerhouse of omega-3 fatty acids, proven to prevent cardiovascular disease and diabetes
• Flax-seed—high omega-3 fatty acids; good for the heart and brain and contains estrogen metabolism benefits
• Turmeric—an ingredient in curry powder that may help suppress and destroy cancer cells in multiple myeloma and pancreatic cancer
• Algae—including chlorella, spirulina, and blue-green algae. Can boost the immune system, detoxifying heavy metals and pesticides; aid digestion; speed up the healing process; alkaline an acidic system; fight bacterial infections associated with surgery.
• Honey and Bee Pollen
• Cereal Grasses
Just as the bread and the wine reminds us of Christ's sacrifice for us, so too it ought to remind us that our old man was crucified with Christ and our new man is called to be a Living Sacrifice. Thus, our bodies are not to be used for our own pleasures and lust, but stewarded for the Master's use. This includes how, what, and when we eat, sleep, exercise, etc. Let us not revive the old man, but continually re-examine everything we do, whether it be for God's glory and kingdom, or our own.
